County Office of Emergency Management says brunt of storm expected between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Temperatures approached pleasant, spring-like degrees Wednesday afternoon as officials warned of a potentially-dangerous storm that could pack a wallop through the night. The Morris County County Office of Emergency Management issued a statement shortly after 4 p.m. calling for residents to be cautious as "a complex storm system ... is expected to approach us over the next 12-18 hours," said county OEM director Jeffrey Paul. The main threat for flooding and damaging winds is expected in the evening, according to forecasts, Paul said. The storm, as of Wednesday afternoon, was still in the central Pennsylvania area and may weaken before it reaches Morris County, "but it still could produce rain showers toward sunset and gusty winds," he said…

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead. Customers are reminded that many NJ Transit rail lines …

NJ State Police issued alert for entire state Tuesday afternoon.
Don't expect to make any outdoor plans on Wednesday. The remnants of Hurricane Isaac, which caused major flooding and many headaches in Louisiana, will get an opportunity to wreak some havoc in New Jersey throughout the day on Sept. 5. The New Jersey State Police issued an alert Tuesday afternoon via the Nixle.com service, advising people of Isaac's pending presence. Flash flood advisories, watches and warnings are being issued all over the state, according to the alert. In the Morristown area, showers and thunderstorms are expected mostly in the morning Wednesday, with humid temperatures in the low 80s.

It quickly passed through town, but certainly made a lot of noise while it was here.
What do you do when you're waiting for a Planning Board meeting to begin and the sky is growing darker and darker as a pending storm moves in? Get out your camera, of course. Such was the case Thursday, as a storm that was predicted to be quite the bear ended up coming through relatively quickly. It did, however, make a lot of noise while it was in town.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for several New Jersey counties, including Morris, Sussex and Somerest. Also under the watch are portions of Connecticut, Massachusetts, western Maine, New Hampshire, southeast New York, southeast Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The NWS is warning of possible hail to 2 inches in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts of up to 70 mph, and dangerous lightning. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Although officials urge caution and advise being on the lookout for severe weather, it is a less urgent declaration than a tornado warning, which is an indication a tornado has actually been detected. …
