$550 Million in Local Spending Expected from Super Bowl

Estimated 400,000 people expected in region; team practices to be held in Florham Park and Media Day in Newark

The 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium is expected to have a $550 million economic impact on New Jersey and New York, with an estimated 400,000 people in the region, according to a report on dailyrecord.com. Businesses should start preparing for the flood of visitors now, according to speakers at The Big Game Huddle, an informational and networking event held Wednesday at Raritan Valley Country Club. “Start the celebration now,” said Wayne Hasenbalg, president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. “You don’t have to wait until the week before the game," he told the dailyrecord.com. That impact will be felt in North and Central Jersey, as one of the competing teams will practice at the Atlantic …

Superheroes Run on Super Bowl Sunday

The second-annual Super Sunday 4-Miler is anticipated to draw over 1,100 runners to Morristown on Feb. 3.

It may not completely make up for all the food, booze and sedentary activity expected on Super Bowl Sunday, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, downtown Morristown will be the stage for the second-annual Superhero 4-Miler run. Registration for the event can be done at the Superhero Events website or on the day of the run. Heather McDermott, manager of the Morristown Running Company and one of the lead organizer for the Sunday run noted Super Bowl Sunday is traditionally a big day for eating. "It's the second biggest next to Thanksgiving," she said. "This is a good way to burn some of those calories." Last year, the inaugural run brought 1,100 runners. McDermott anticipated even more this year. Some of the draw…

Giants Parade: New York or New Jersey?

The debate continues.

It's an argument that's been boiling over since 1976–or, at least since the Giants started winning Super Bowls. Where to hold the victory parade? The Canyon of Heroes, as is the traditional place a New York-based sporting team takes its victory lap (the G-Men are set to walk down at 11 a.m. Tuesday), or in New Jersey, where the newly-crowned Super Bowl champion team has actually been located for 36 years? It's hotly-debated, so much so Gov. Chris Christie has been calling them the "New Jersey" Giants. What do you think? Should it be exclusively in New Jersey? New York? Or, can football fans from both sides of the border agree that the Giants are both states' teams? Chime in below.

I went to the parade, hopped on the train, then back to Giants Stadium (yes, I will not call it the name of the insurance company!) There is no place in NJ that can compare to having a ticker tape parade in NYC....where would we do it on North Beverwyck Rd? Get real.   more ›

Trophy Another New Jersey 'Super' Export

Just like the Giants, the Vince Lombardi Trophy is a product of the Garden State.

When you're watching the Super Bowl on Sunday night, the team that calls the Meadowlands home won't be the only New Jersey export on display. What is it? Here's a hint: It takes numerous skilled craftspeople and about four months to complete, and millions of people will have their eyes glued to it on Sunday. And it's made nearby—right here in New Jersey in Parsippany. The Vince Lombardi Trophy that will be passed around by either the New York (we know it's really New Jersey) Giants or New England Patriots after winning the game's most important contest was produced in Morris County, crafted in the Tiffany & Co. workshop. So, while you feel Jersey pride watching Big Blue's tough defense and Eli Manning-led offense, you will know that they …

Hey Michael...I guess you aren't a Giants fan. First, what's wrong with the being named the Giants? Is the Jets nickname any better? How about the Eagles? All I care about is what happens on the field. For your info, the Giants have won three Super Bowls, the Jets one and the Eagles zippo. Second, as Greg pointed you got the venue of the game wrong. I don't think Big Blue is lame...Go Giants!!!   more ›
