Garbage, Bucket Trucks Knock Down Poles, Power Lines

Occupants of two vehicles needed to be rescued after live wires fell on Washington Street, which remains closed between Kahdena Road and Western Avenue; in a separate incident, a bucket truck ran into lines near the Morris County Courthouse.

In a span of less than a half-hour, a garbage truck and a bucket truck each struck and brought down power lines in two unrelated incidents about a half-mile apart on Washington Street and Western Avenue Tuesday morning. The garbage struck first hit power lines on Washington Street near the corner of Mills Street at about 8:30 a.m., a Morristown police officer on the scene said. The truck knocked down three utility poles and power lines, which remained active on the ground as of about 9 a.m. The lines fell on two vehicles where the occupants needed to be pulled out by utility workers who were passing through the area, the police officer said.
