Less than a week after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults in a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school, one New Jersey school district took action with its board of education approving to hire armed security guards at each of its buildings. The Marlboro Board of Education down in Monmouth County approved the action on Dec. 20, as reported in Marlboro-Colts Neck Patch, and will have armed security guards in each of its nine school buildings at the start of the new year. Another debate about gun control regulations and laws was sparked after the massacre in Newtown, with many calling for stricter legislations and enforcement. The Morris Township concert promoter who was trapped in Angola for 49 days on fraud accusations after rapper Nas didn't appear for a series of New Year's Eve shows has filed a $10 million lawsuit against the performer, according to a TMZ report. Patrick Allocco, CEO of AllGood Concerts, a division of AllGood Entertainment and his son, Patrick Jr. were held in Angola for more than a month starting on New Year's Eve on fraud accusations. The two were released Feb. 17 after their travel ban was lifted and American embassy officials escorted them on a flight out of the country. A Morris Plains man and former Parsippany Boy Scout leader accused in January of showing child pornography to a boy was arrested again Thursday on charges he molested two teenage boys in the 1990s, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. Stephen Corcoran, 45, is accused of one count of aggravated sexual assault, multiple counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from accusations Corcoran molested a 13-to-16-year-old boy between 1997 and 1998, and another 16-to-18-year-old boy in 1999. Stanislav Kling-Loy, playing violin, took the top prize in 2011 in annual school district fundraiser.
The man whom an NJ Transit spokeswoman Monday said made no attempt to move out of the way of an oncoming train was later identified as Stanislav Kling-Loy, who won the annual Morristown's Got Talent event with his sister in February 2011. He was 21 at the time of death, the spokeswoman said. Stanislav and his sister Junia, who was 14 at the time of the competition, performed a violin and piano duet that took first place. Stanislav played the violin. "We are saddened to hear about this tragic loss," said Debbie Sontupe, chair of the Morris Educational Foundation, which runs Morristown's Got Talent. About 15 will be selected for annual event in February.
The auditions for Morristown's Got Talent took place at Morristown High School on Saturday. There were more than 85 participants, but will be whittled down to only 15 or so for the big show on Feb. 27. But, that doesn't mean everyone didn't have a great time getting out and giving it all for an opportunity to perform at the annual event, benefiting the Morris Educational Foundation.
