Morris County freeholders declare Sunday as 'Col. Peter J. O'Hagan Day.'

The Morris County Freeholders have declared Sunday as Col. Peter J. O'Hagan Day in Morris County.

O'Hagan, a former freeholder and Morris Township mayor, is a retired colonel with the U.S. Marine Corps, which will celebrate its 238th birthday on Sunday.

O'Hagan was a member of the Morris Township Committee from 1975 to 1987 and served as mayor in 1978, 1979 and 1986. He served as a freeholder from 1990 to 1994.

"There is no one who embodies Marine Corps values and principles of honor, courage and commitment more than Peter O’Hagan," Freeholder Director Tom Mastrangelo said. "The freeholders wanted to recognize his long history of service to Morris County, our state, our nation and to the Marine Corps."

O'Hagan, an intelligence and security specialist, served in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm.

O’Hagan was a highly decorated Marine who earned the Meritorious Service Medal, two Secretary of the Navy Commendation Medals with Combat “V," and commendations from the White House and the Secret Service for his work in Vietnam.

O’Hagan was presented at his home Thursday with the framed proclamation that declared Nov. 10 to be his day by freeholder and former Marine Corps. Reservist John Krickus and Morris County Administrator John Bonanni.
