$50K Spent by Freeholders on Countywide Police Study
Report says late April meeting could put brakes on issue entirely.
A three-member subcommittee of the Morris County Freeholders will meet with the County Park Police on April 28 in a closed meeting to determine if moving ahead with a countywide police department is the right move.
According to dailyrecord.com, in the past year – since the idea began to surface – more than $50,000 has been spent on a Freeholder Board-sanctioned study to determine the viability of a police force that would supplement the county’s already existing 38 municipal squads.
That sum was split between a Teaneck-based law firm and Fair Lawn-based accounting firm, the report said.

One issue arising is the notion that the Park Police would be eliminated, while the Freeholders say the department would be transitioned into the new department, the report said.
The subcommittee consists of Freeholder Director Tom Mastrangelo, Doug Cabana and David Scapicchio. The report said the late April meeting could be the endpoint if the Park Commission is not in favor. If not, the study will likely move forward.
