Morristown Votes Elms To Council Seat 5-1

Replacement for Kevin Gsell will be 'great asset to the town,' mayor says.

Resident Michael Elms was chosen in a 5-1 vote Monday to fill an at-large council seat vacated by Kevin Gsell.

The Morristown Council chose Elms in a near-unanimous vote over Justin Davis and Rosary Lescohier.

Councilwoman Raline Smith-Reid voted for Davis, who was the only one of the three present at the meeting.

"Congratulations to Michael. He won the June primary so he's the right choice," said Mayor Tim Dougherty. Elms will be a Democratic council candidate in the fall.

"I'm happy that the super majority of the council supported him. I look forward to the November election. Michael is going to be a great asset to the town and we look forward to knocking on doors together in the fall."

Gsell resigned from Morristown town council on July 8, and the Morristown Democratic Committee had to provide three names for the council to choose among.

Elms is a 10-year resident of Morristown and has served on the Board of Adjustment and Morristown Parking Authority. He is a Realtor.
